The spokesperson of the United Nations has expressed concern about civilian casualties following the attacks of the Pakistani military regime on Afghanistan and said that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times.
The military regime of Pakistan carried out airstrikes on the provinces of Paktika, Paktia and Kunar on Saturday night.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman of the Taliban, wrote on his X page that as a result of these attacks, 36 people, including women and children, were martyred and 163 others were injured.
The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMA) has also confirmed that at least 28 civilians including women and children were martyred and 49 others were injured in Pakistan’s airstrikes on Paktia, Paktika and Kunar provinces.
Meanwhile, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric called for an “immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians” in a press conference.
He clarified: “The mission’s humanitarian partners tell us that the recent attacks have also caused displacement, and that humanitarian partners on the ground are assessing needs and preparing to provide emergency assistance.”
Stephane Dujarric has announced that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has asked all parties to adhere to their obligations based on international humanitarian law and that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times.
Yesterday, the International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) asked Pakistan to immediately and transparently clarify the circumstances, legal basis and targeting protocols governing this operation.
