Ukraine and France are negotiating on granting a license for the production of SCALP missiles on the territory of Ukraine. As reported “Armenpress”citing Euronews, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that Kiev is making progress in the negotiations.
The French SCALP cruise missiles are similar to the British Storm Shadow and have a firing range of up to 250 km. Paris first agreed to supply them to Ukraine in July 2023 after the NATO summit in Vilnius. Since then, Kiev has used SCALP missiles to strike targets in Russia and Crimea.
“There is indeed progress in the negotiations, but it is too early to say anything definitive, because this is a complex process that includes intellectual property, starting production, etc.; In this regard, a certain bureaucracy is involved,” said Fedorov.
He also stated that the talks were started by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron back in June, adding that the dialogue is ongoing with both the government and the company, and in that regard all the details are being finalized.
After the “Great Seven” summit held in Evian in early June, the leaders of the member states of the organization announced that they discussed the possibility of producing Western weapons in Ukraine and are ready to discuss the issue of granting such licenses.
