

The Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) issued a statement in which demanded the immediate convocation of elections in Venezuelaand warned about a serious situation of constitutional order.
In a statement published in social networksthe institution reaffirmed that the Constitution is the supreme rule of the State and highlighted that any action contrary to it is invalid. In that sense, he maintains that It cannot be interpreted according to political convenience.
Obligation to call elections in Venezuela
The document states that, after ruling No. 0001 of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of January 3, 2026, more than 90 days passed without the National Assembly deciding on the extension of the exercise of the Presidency.
According to the interpretation of the faculty, this situation constitutes an absolute failure in accordance with articles 233 and 234 of the Constitution. The legal consequence, the faculty highlighted, is the call for universal, direct and secret elections within the following 30 days.
“This is not an interpretation. It is the current Constitution,” the statement indicated.
The faculty warned that the indefinite exercise of power by an unelected authority violates fundamental principles such as popular sovereignty and the right to vote.
In addition, They rejected that the principle of administrative continuity can be used to justify permanence in presidential office.pointing out that this criterion applies only to designated positions and not to the head of the State.
Institutional requirements
In its statement, the Faculty Council raised a series of concrete demands to restore constitutional order, among them, the immediate call for presidential elections in Venezuela and the designation of an autonomous and independent National Electoral Council.
In addition, they demanded the authorization of political parties and citizens with restricted rights, as well as the guarantee of the right to vote for all Venezuelans, including those abroad.
