(KPL) On April 30, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane met with Li Hongzhong, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, during an official visit to Beijing.
The meeting took place as part of activities marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and China and the Laos-China Friendship Year.
Li welcomed the Lao delegation and expressed his satisfaction in jointly representing both parties and governments at the anniversary celebrations. He also praised the recent visit of Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith to China as a special envoy of President Thongloun Sisoulith, noting it highlighted the success of the 12th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
Thongsavanh expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed Laos’ commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries, guided by the “Four Goods” principle.
Both sides discussed ways to deepen cooperation, including implementing high-level agreements, organizing activities to mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties, and advancing the second master plan (2024–2028) on building a Laos-China community with a shared future.
They also emphasized the importance of continuing the legacy of past leaders in strengthening bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
Thongsavanh briefed Li on his earlier meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and expressed gratitude for China’s continued support to Laos’ development.
