When putting together an itinerary of activities in Paris either Barcelonamany travelers overlook that, just a few hours away, there are countries that they can easily visit, without having to take a plane.
The vibrant French capital has it all; However, in a journey of just over two hours you can discover another surprising destination: Luxembourg.
This country stands out for being compact and photogenic. In about six hours you can concentrate on Luxembourg City, whose old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can start at the upper part (Ville Haute), where the Plaza de Armas and the Grand Ducal Palace are located, and then walk towards the Chemin de la Corniche, known as “the most beautiful balcony in Europe”, from where you will have spectacular views of the valley and the Grund neighborhood.
Descending to that level allows you to discover another side of the city: houses next to the Alzette River, quiet streets and an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. If you have time, you can enter the Bock Casemates, a network of tunnels dug into the rock that reveals the country’s defensive history and offers unique viewpoints.
Everything is within walking distance and public transportation is free, so getting around is easy. More than a large European capital, Luxembourg offers an elegant, relaxed and very accessible experience, ideal for “adding a country” without complications.
After the visit, you can return to Paris or even continue to Brussels, Belgium, about three hours away by train.

The other case is presented from Barcelona. From there you can take a bus to Andorra, a journey of approximately three hours. It is advisable to bring your passport, since it is not part of the European Union.
Andorra feels more like a mountain retreat than a traditional capital. Surrounded by the Pyrenees, the destination invites you to enjoy both the landscape and a slower pace.
Most visits are concentrated in Andorra la Vella, where you can walk along Meritxell Avenue – full of shops – and combine it with the old town (Barri Antic), where the Casa de la Vall is located, one of the most representative historical buildings in the country.
If you are looking for a different experience, you can go to Caldea, the famous thermal waters resort, ideal for a short break, or go up to a nearby viewpoint to appreciate the Pyrenees without going too far.
More than a list of monuments, Andorra offers atmosphere: clean air, landscapes and a different feeling of escape, perfect to disconnect for a few hours.
