A jury unanimously convicted two men of carjacking a woman at gunpoint and then selling the stolen car to another man.
Andre Lightbourn, 31, and Luther Delancy, 21, did not show any emotion as the jury’s forewoman announced the panel’s verdict.
The convicts, who are on remand, return to court on September 30 for the beginning of a sentencing hearing before Justice Neil Brathwaite.
The charges stem from the July 15, 2022 carjacking of Sherika Gibson in the parking lot of Go Postal on Carmichael Road.
Gibson was waiting on her daughter when she was confronted by a gunman, who ordered her out of her boyfriend’s Nissan Cube, while threatening to blow her head off.
Gibson testified that Lightbourne drove off in the Cube, while Delancy left in the Mazda that they both arrived in.
By happenstance, Gibson and her boyfriend spotted the stolen Cube on Robinson Road.
They followed the vehicle while calling the police.
When the driver of the Cube went into a barber shop, Gibson’s boyfriend used his spare key to drive the car to the Grove Police Station.
Around that time, Michael McCartney showed up at the same police station to report his vehicle stolen.
McCartney testified that he had purchased the car from Lightbourne after he saw the vehicle advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
When the police arrested Lightbourne and Delancy, they also recovered the Mazda that was used in the car jacking.
Lightbourne was represented by Philip Hilton and Miranda Adderley appeared for Delancy.
Rashied Edgecombe and Cashena Thompson were the prosecutors.
