US President Donald Trump announced in a conversation with journalists in the Oval Office on June 4 that he spoke with the “Hezbollah” group about a possible cease-fire in Lebanon. “Armenpress”according to The Times of Israel.
“They did not reject me. They called us and said: “Maybe we should stop?” And I think that some things will happen there,” he said.
“It would be very good if there was peace in Lebanon. I’ve talked to Bibi (Benjamin) Netanyahu about it, and I’m talking to Lebanon about it, and I’ve actually talked to Hezbollah about it. And I think progress has been made,” Trump added.
Earlier, “Hezbollah” rejected the cease-fire plan approved by Israel and Lebanon at the level of the ambassadors in Washington, demanding that Israel withdraw its troops from the south of Lebanon. Israel, for its part, announced that it will not withdraw its troops from the areas of southern Lebanon that are under its control as a “buffer zone”.
Iran has made a cease-fire in Lebanon a condition of any peace deal with Washington and has hinted in recent days that it may intervene directly if Israel continues its attacks in Lebanon.
