Protests called by transporters block the passage on the CA-5 north highway in Siguatepeque, Comayaguaand Villanueva, Cortes, this Friday.
Units of buses and trucks were parked on the road in both trails before six in the morning in Siguatepeque, blocking the passage between San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa. Units of “quick” buses in Villanueva blocked one of the lanes heading towards San Pedro Sula.
Ángela Aguilar, representative of the transporters, explained that the sector is in crisis and demanded a meeting with the Honduran Institute of Land Transportation (IHTT).
They stated that they have not received responses to requests and that the price of fuel has affected their operations in recent months. They also highlighted that the flow of passengers has decreased.
The seizure, they reported, is indefinite. The passage was also blocked towards La Esperanza, Intibucá, from Siguatepeque. National Police agents arrived at the scene, although no evictions have been reported at this time.
