In the morning and noon hours of this Friday, the bodies of three young people who died after a shooting attack that occurred Thursday night in the Perfecto Vásquez neighborhood.
The victims were identified as Rodolfo Alexander Hernández López (20), Joshua Jafeth Alberto Santos (22) and Douglas Reconco Benítez (30). The first body to be claimed by his relatives was that of Hernández López, followed by Santos and finally that of Reconco Benítez.
From the early hours of Labor Dayrelatives and friends remained outside the morgue waiting for the delivery of the bodies, after forensic teams carried out the removal during the early hours of the morning. Private vehicles and hearses arrived at the scene to transport the remains to their respective wakes and subsequent burial.
According to testimonials of relatives, Douglas Reconco Benitez He lived alone in an apartment he rented in the same neighborhood where the attack occurred. He was single, had no children and worked as an operator in a logistics company in the area. They also indicated that the other two young people lived in the sector and maintained a friendly relationship with him.
According to preliminary versions, the three men were in a lot playing cards around 8:35 p.m., when armed individuals, traveling in two vehicles, arrived at the scene and opened fire repeatedly.
Reconco Benítez died at the crime scene, witnesses reported that he was initially injured and was later finished off by the attackers. Meanwhile, Hernández López and Santos were rushed to the Mario Catarino Rivas hospital and to a private clinic in the Paz Barahona neighborhood, respectively, where they died minutes later due to the severity of their injuries. From this massacre there is a fourth person, who is injured and is fighting for his life in a clinic.
“He was passionate about soccer and liked to play cards. He was not in any gang nor did he tell us that he received threats, even an hour before what happened he came to the house to ask me for a ladder for a job he was going to do,” said a relative of Douglas Reconco, who added that the young man leaves four siblings and grew up without his parents.
The family, of Christian roots, according to what they claimed, stated that they did not know the reasons for the attack and assured that they had no relationship with the other two deceased. In the midst of pain, they expressed resignation and indicated that they expect divine justice for what happened.
For their part, police authorities reported that one of the main lines of investigation points to a possible territorial dispute linked to micro-drug trafficking in the area, where criminal structures such as the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and the Gang 18 maintain a presence.
