The start of the school holidays also marks the start of the holiday season for many employees in Austria. However, for most people, once they say goodbye to everyday office life, that doesn’t mean that they turn their backs on their colleagues completely: According to a currentkarriere.at survey of 1,001 users, almost one in two people (45 percent) check their work emails and/or can be reached by phone even while on vacation. 28 percent say they are willing to be contacted in emergencies. This means that almost three quarters of those surveyed are available during their non-working time.
People with personnel responsibility are even more likely than average to be available for their team while on vacation. The majority (61 percent) check messages regularly and can be contacted by phone, 25 percent are available in emergencies and only 14 percent say they cannot be reached at all while on vacation.
One in four managers feels burdened by this, eleven percent of whom even feel very burdened. Of the people without personnel responsibility, around two thirds (65 percent) can generally be reached on vacation. 26 percent feel burdened by this, including twelve percent who feel very burdened.
