Although Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently said that Israeli forces in southern Lebanon have “complete freedom of action”, new statements from Israel indicate that the space for military operations is increasingly narrowing under pressure from the United States of America, reports an Israeli portal. Channel 13.
According to information published in the central information program of this portal, the administration of US President Donald Trump is placing increasingly strict restrictions on Israeli military activities, not only in Lebanon but also on other battlefields.
Israel’s political elite is said to have issued precise guidelines to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on where military operations are permitted and where they are not. According to those instructions, the army has freedom of action within the so-called Yellow Line and in cases where it is necessary to neutralize immediate threats.
On the other hand, operations in more remote areas of Lebanon, including Beirut and Tyre, are not allowed.
A senior Israeli official told this portal that the message Israel received from Washington in recent weeks was unequivocal.
– You had permission to operate without restrictions, but that has come to an end, said the unnamed official.
At the same time, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir held a meeting with top military officials on the situation in the Gaza Strip.
As stated, during the talks, the possibility of launching an operation aimed at disarming Hamas was discussed, whereby the intensity of the eventual action would depend on the decision of the political leadership of the state.
However, concerns were also expressed at that meeting that the Trump administration could block more extensive military moves and show more flexibility towards Hamas when it comes to disarming it.
This information comes at a time when talks continue about security arrangements in Lebanon and Israel’s future steps in Gaza, while relations between Washington and Tel Aviv remain one of the key factors in making military and political decisions in the region.
