By issuing a new decree, the leader of the Taliban has ordered the creation of a special unit of 8,000 people to strengthen security control in the eastern borders of Afghanistan; An action that is carried out at the same time as border tensions with Pakistan increase.
By issuing a new decree, the leader of the Taliban government has ordered the formation of a special unit consisting of about eight thousand armed forces to deploy along the eastern borders of Afghanistan.
This unit is supposed to be responsible for controlling the border, preventing the infiltration of armed elements and dealing with security threats in the border areas with Pakistan.
According to sources close to the Taliban, this decision was taken in the context of increasing border tensions between Kabul and Islamabad in recent months and scattered attacks in the border areas have intensified security concerns.
Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban that some armed groups use Afghanistan’s territory to carry out attacks on Pakistan’s territory. A charge that the Taliban rejects and insists that it provides “complete” border security.
The formation of this new unit can be a clear message from the Taliban to Pakistan; A message that Kabul intends to strengthen border control and take the security initiative.
However, some analysts believe that the deployment of such a large force may lead to increased sensitivities and even escalation of border tensions.
The Taliban say that the purpose of this action is to “prevent the infiltration of armed elements and maintain stability in the eastern regions”; But on the other hand, Islamabad still expresses concern about the activities of armed groups in Afghanistan and demands that the Taliban take practical action to curb these groups.
This development occurs while the relations between the Taliban and Pakistan have been tense many times in the past two years and both sides have accused each other of failing to provide border security.
