The holidays are here: which destinations are the most popular this year?

During the May Day holidays, many Slovenians will go on trips. Some traditionally choose the Croatian coast, while others go a little further. Despite the unpredictable world events, travel agencies do not notice a decline in demand.

In the tourist agency Palma, they see the most interest in the Netherlands, Greece, Iceland, Malta, Turkey and Egypt for May Day holidays. “Neighboring Italy is also very popular, which hides the wonderful corners of Sicily, Calabria, Sardinia and Puglia. Spain, Portugal, France, Albania, Macedonia, Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Ireland, Romania (Transylvania), Poland, Switzerland are among the favorites,” she said. Nena Kraševec from the Palma agency.

Despite the unpredictable conditions in the world, many of their passengers will go a little further. Popular destinations include Mexico, Peru, China, Japan, Uzbekistan, Morocco and Gambia. “Shorter bus trips are also very popular. Among the most desirable trips are visits to nearby cities and regions, such as Tuscany, Milan, Rome, Cinque Terre, Gardaland, as well as Prague with its castles and Vienna with its famous zoo, Bavarian castles and Budapest, Switzerland, Sarajevo and Belgrade,” she added.

As they observe, Slovenians will also choose a short escape to the Slovenian spas, to the sea or to neighboring Croatia for their May Day visit, where hotels with an indoor pool and mobile homes are the most sought after. Montenegro will be opened for the summer season.

Group cruises in the Mediterranean are also increasingly popular. The Palma agency has 150 departures and 12 exclusive charters from Ljubljana guaranteed for the May Day holidays. In total, more than 7,000 passengers will travel with them.

    Redirected to other locations

Although the authorities advise against traveling to certain parts of the world, this does not reduce interest in travel. “The current situation mainly affects the redirection of tourist flows, but not a general decrease in interest in travel. Guests still want to travel. This means that part of the demand from the Middle East (Dubai, Oman, Jordan) is diverted towards the Mediterranean, Europe, also part of Asia, both Americas and Africa,” explained Kraševec.

The Relax travel agency explained that already after the outbreak of unrest in the Middle East, they themselves canceled departures to certain destinations, including those on May Day, even though they were already sold out. “Guests understood this, mostly diverted to other destinations, but there are also some who said that they will wait for the new scheduled dates for these destinations. The guests understand the situation and adapt quickly, and the choice is very wide even without this,” they added.
