The former mayor of Jēkabpils and the current deputy of the local government, Leonids Salcevičs, has appealed the verdict of the Riga city court, by which he was found guilty of falsifying the annual reports of the “Jēkabpils” basketball club and was fined 23,400 euros, the LETA agency found out.
It was previously reported that at the discretion of the prosecutor’s office Salcevichas the chairman of the board of the basketball club “Jēkabpils”, falsified annual reports in the interests of the club in connection with management services with the company “Science House 5” Ltd., which has been liquidated for several years.
Prosecutor Kristaps Radkēvičs told Latvian Television that fictitious invoices were issued. We are talking about contracts in the amount of 18,000 euros in 2019 and 48,000 euros in 2020. The submission of the annual reports took place during the time when Salcevičs was also an advisor to the Minister of Finance of that time, Jānis Reira (JV).
Last September, Latvian Television reported that Salcevičs pleaded guilty in this criminal case.
Latvian Television knows that Salcevičs is involved in another criminal process, which is currently being investigated by the Economic Crimes Department of the State Police. Given that the investigation is still ongoing, the police are not giving further comments.
