BERN – The first round of talks between Iran and the United States of America in Switzerland ended today, a source close to the negotiating team told Reuters.
US Vice President JD Vance said today, June 21, that “significant progress” has been made in Middle East negotiations, including the situation in Lebanon, as well as talks between the United States and Iran.
Vance, in the Swiss mountain resort of Birgenstock, where the negotiations are taking place, during the talks with the Iranian side on a broader agreement in the Middle East, assessed that the USA is in a “historic moment” and stated that in the talks mediated by the representatives of Pakistan and Qatar, work is being done on the “transformation of the Middle East” and the permanent improvement of relations with Iran.
“President (US) Donald Trump has ordered that we turn over a new page and change our relationship with the people of Iran,” Vance said, CBS reported.
Vance stated that the goal of the US administration is to ensure stability in the region through diplomacy and enable joint work on “peace and prosperity”.
American and Iranian negotiators held a trilateral meeting with Qatari mediators as part of talks in Switzerland, officials familiar with the situation told Reuters.
