On Thursday morning, the first plane landed at the new Ilulissat Airport.
The first plane, who landed at Ilulissat’s airport, came from Nuuk. It was Air Greenland’s plane Qasapi. All three crew members – the two pilots and the cabin crew – come from Ilulissat.
Sermitsia’s journalist spoke to the plane’s captain, Tonny Fisker, in the airport building.
– It’s wonderful and really something you can be proud of. We flew quite normally en route, but that changed when we started the approach. During the approach, we simply flew past the old airport. It was a strange but wonderful experience, he tells Sermitsiaq.
Tonny Fisker spent a lot of time at the old airport, now closed, when he was growing up.
– My parents worked at the airport, so I came there often as a child. That is why it is of course also something special for me that we are allowed to help open the new airport with passengers on board.
He flew with two colleagues from Ilulissat: pilot Karla De Kam and cabin crew Sussie Marø.
– All my colleagues on board come from Ilulissat – both the pilot and the cabin crew. Of course, we are all anxious for it to go well. We have talked about it several times, and of course we also think it is a bit strange that we have to help inaugurate and open the new airport in this way, says Tonny Fisker.
