The Italian authorities have arrested four people suspected of being the perpetrators of the explosive attack on the journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, leader of the investigative show “Report”.
According to Italian media, the operation was carried out by the Carabinieri by order of the Court of Rome, at the request of the Anti-Mafia Directorate.
Three of the arrested have been sent to prison, while a fourth has been placed under house arrest. The arrests were made in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the provinces of Naples and Avellino.
The attack happened on the evening of October 16, 2025 in Pomezia, near Rome, when a quantity of explosives exploded in front of the door of the journalist’s apartment. As a result, his two vehicles parked outside were destroyed and the surrounding wall of the property was damaged.
According to the investigations, the four suspects are accused of possessing, transporting and using explosives, threatening and damaging property, with the aggravating factor being that they acted in a group and with methods similar to those of mafia organizations.
The prosecution suspects that the group acted on behalf of third parties, who have not yet been identified, against payment. Investigators believe the masterminds have provided funding, dedicated phone cards, legal support and even planned a possible escape abroad for the perpetrators.
According to the investigation file, the suspects tried to prevent the incident from being revealed by asking for surveillance equipment, destroying SIM cards and agreeing to joint versions to hide their involvement and protect the customers.
Investigations continue to identify those who ordered the assassination. Meanwhile, the Italian authorities have announced that there are other people under investigation and checks are being carried out in several premises to discover those who may have provided logistical support to the criminal group.
