At the plenary session this afternoon, the Draft Law on Adequate and Fair Representation was passed in the first reading. Opposing opinions, mutual accusations, different interpretations of legal provisions could be heard from the pulpit. The deputies from the government with praise, and the deputies from the opposition with criticism.

MP Bekim Qoku from “Vredi” said that this is an important law. Based on the census, equal treatment of all citizens, according to their qualities.

    – The law guarantees equal opportunities for smaller communities, to have all rights at all levels. The law guarantees the rights of citizens – he said, among other things.

He urged the MPs to put aside their calculations and support this proposed law.

MP Fatmir Bitici from SDSM said that the essence of this law is disappointing.

    – Every citizen must be employed and promoted according to knowledge, ability, professionalism and integrity. The state administration must not be a party prey, nor an ethnic market, because the institutions exist to serve the citizens. We need a system in which competence will be a condition, but equal opportunity will be a guarantee – said Bitici, reports MIA.

He underlined that this law must be fundamentally improved for the sake of the Constitution, for the sake of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, for the sake of trust and for the sake of Macedonia as a common state of all its citizens.

Earlier, the Parliamentary Commission for Political System and Inter-Community Relations held a public hearing on the Proposal – the law on adequate and fair representation, in the first reading, which is being carried out in regular procedure. Experts and MPs presented their views on the law, and some of them presented a series of proposals for its improvement, as well as monitoring the implementation of the law.
