Ethiopian athlete Gudaf Tsegai received a four-month disqualification for doping.

Last December, a banned substance was found in a native of Tigray – a metabolite of letrozole. According to the athlete, the doctor prescribed this remedy to her for the treatment of a disease that she had already been diagnosed with.
She is like proof of her innocence provided medical documents. Subsequently, the Ethiopian track and field athlete submitted a statement that this treatment met the international standard requirements of WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) for the therapeutic use of drugs allowed by athletes. This application was later rejected.
Tsegai’s disqualification period will last from June 1 to September 30, 2026. Her sporting achievements after last December were also annulled.
Note that Gudaf Tsegai participated in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, as a result of which she won a bronze medal in the 5000-meter run. She is also the world champion in 5,000 meters (2022) and 10,000 meters (2023).
At the World Indoor Championships, she won two golds in the 1500 meters (2022 and 2025). Besides, Tsegai won the 2023 Diamond League stage in the 5,000-meter race.
