Petar Vitanov, “Progressive Bulgaria” defined Budget 2026 as the first task
“The 10-day euphoria is over – we must accept responsibility for the management,” said Petar Vitanov from the podium on behalf of Progressive Bulgaria.
He emphasized that the first tasks before the new majority are the adoption of the budget and dealing with the problems in the state treasury, as well as controlling the speculation.
“We need to start remedial actions in the judicial system – with the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council and a new chief prosecutor. This requires support from other parties as well. Judicial reform is not a party cause – citizens expect a broad consensus,” said Vitanov.
According to him, the rulers will face serious challenges. “Within days we will face the conquered state. People expect justice,” he said. According to him, it is now that the parliament has a chance to be the engine of a long-delayed change.
“After several wasted years, we now have the opportunity to turn the Bulgarian parliament into an engine of the transition from oligarchy to full-fledged European democracy. This is the mission that the voters assigned to us, and we must fulfill it,” said Vitanov.
The declaration also touched upon the topic of the war against Ukraine. Vitanov criticized the defense cooperation agreement signed between Bulgaria and Ukraine.
Toma Bykov, GERB-SDS submitted requests for opposition
“We are ready to be a right-conservative, constructive and strong opposition in the 52nd National Assembly and to exercise systematic parliamentary control over the majority,” said Toma Bikov on behalf of the GERB-SDS parliamentary group.
“For the past 12 years, Bulgaria has been governed by coalition governments. Today we have a full majority – something we haven’t seen in decades,” Bykov said.
“A large part of the Bulgarian citizens did not vote for “Progressive Bulgaria”, but for Rumen Radev as a person – this is a huge responsibility,” he said.
“The election results showed that Bulgarian citizens give a broad mandate for broad structural reforms,” added Bykov.
Bykov noted that with the current configuration in the parliament, political dialogue is no longer a mandatory condition. “Today, with the full majority of Mr. Radev, conducting a political dialogue is no longer a necessity. It could only be conducted if there is a good will on the part of those in power,” he said.
According to him, the main priority should be the implementation of real reforms. “Structural reforms are a necessity, the delay or absence of which will lead to new disappointment in Bulgarian society. If this necessity is not taken into account and does not produce concrete actions on the part of the rulers, the result will be similar to that of recent years,” said Bykov.
Nadezhda Yordanova, PP-DB: Support for judicial reform and for Ukraine
“The Bulgarians gave Progressive Bulgaria a mandate with one overarching task – dismantling the Borisov-Peevski model,” said Nadezhda Yordanova on behalf of PP-DB. Yesterday it became clear that the formation will participate in the 52nd National Assembly as two separate parliamentary groups.
According to her, MPs from PP and DB will support decisions in the judicial system, as long as they are fair.
“The national interest is not for Bulgaria to remain silent in order not to anger someone,” she said.
Yordanova emphasized that the DB will support decisions to help Ukraine against the Russian aggressor.
“We will not allow either the status quo or the new government to turn Bulgaria into a state of dependence,” she said.
“A plan to dismantle the model, clear deadlines and goals – this is what the Bulgarian voters expect. We will take on the role of opposition, but we will not be silent,” Yordanova also said.
Ayten Sabri, DPS: Let’s restore the culture of political dialogue
In a declaration from the rostrum of the 52nd National Assembly, the DPS declared itself for increasing the quality of life, economic stability and overcoming social and regional inequalities.
“We will work to support young families, culture and education,” MP Ayten Sabri said from the podium.
The party emphasized that they will follow consistent European development and seek a constructive partnership with the US and Euro-Atlantic allies.
DPS stated that in this parliament it will support any constructive and responsible policy.
“Let’s restore the culture of political dialogue”, Ayten Sabri also urged.
Kostadin Kostadinov, Revival with a position on the leva and demography
“We are here so that the voice of truth can be heard,” declared the leader of “Vazrazhdane” Kostadin Kostadinov from the parliamentary rostrum.
He assured that the party will continue to speak “in the temple of lies” and “will not surrender”.
“Vazrazhdane” again insisted on the return of the Bulgarian lev, linking the state’s indebtedness with the membership of the Eurozone.
In his speech, Kostadinov also touched on the demographic crisis as a key problem facing the country. Request and revision of the conditions for our membership in the European Union.
