Demeter Szilárd appeared Tuesday’s Facebook post László L. Simon, the former director general of the Hungarian National Museum, made a scathing comment on the work of his successor, which led to a small battle of comments between Fidesz’s cultural politicians.
Demeter Szilárd (who has also since left MNM) published the following morning under the title “Letter to my friends” thoughts about a change of government. He wrote at length about the bursting Fidesz bubble, luxuries, the young people who have slipped out of the national culture and have no idea who the Russians are, and then concluded the whole thing by saying that “work is waiting for us in the garden”. Under the post, László L. Simon, the director general of the MNM removed in 2023, appeared unexpectedly, and gave a short comment to Demeter:
“Solid, you’ve done a lot of damage to me. Now it would be nice if you would at least be quiet.”
Demeter didn’t leave it at that, she retaliated by saying:
“Yeah, I can see now that it was a shame when I was the only one who stood up for you when you were fired.”

The Minister of Culture at the time, János Csák, fired László L. Simon from his position as director-general of the MNM after he refused Csák’s request to tighten it the entry conditions for the World Press photo exhibition, which also displays LGBTQ themes. Demeter Szilárd about this then he saidaccording to L. Simon, he did not make the right decision, since “the minister is always right as long as he is a minister”, and all his decisions must be implemented, they can be criticized at most before the decision is made.
