With a symbolic action in front of the building at Avenue de la Gare 79 in Esch on Saturday morning, “déi Lénk” protested against empty living space owned by the state. The twelve-room house, which was previously used as accommodation for foreign workers and later as a dormitory, has been empty since 2016, according to the party.
The party criticizes the fact that the state is leaving its own living space unused in times of housing crisis while at the same time renting hundreds of buildings for its administrations and departments. She calls for more transparency about empty state and municipal buildings, the consistent application of the vacancy tax and the complete energy-efficient renovation of the building. According to the party’s estimates, around ten percent of the apartments in Esch are empty. This corresponds to living space for around 3,000 people. At the same time, more and more people cannot find affordable housing. (mago)
