On Tuesday, the Tafila Governor chaired an expanded meeting of the Executive Council in the Governorate House Hall, which included administrative governors, mayors, and directors of official departments, to discuss a package of vital files, most notably the logistical and technical preparations to celebrate the Kingdom’s 80th Independence Day, in addition to developing a proactive emergency plan to reduce forest fires and vegetation with the advent of summer.
Tafila Governor, Dr. Sultan Al-Mady, stressed at the beginning of the meeting that the 80th anniversary of independence represents a national milestone that requires the highest levels of integrated coordination between all institutions to produce celebrations in a manner befitting the greatness of the occasion and its place in the hearts of Jordanians.
Al-Mady indicated that the central celebrations of the governorate will be held on the campus of Tafila Technical University over a period of three days, starting from the twenty-third to the twenty-fifth of next May, explaining that the preparations will include decorating public squares, raising flags, and maintaining roads and vital sites, in parallel with a solid media, security, and traffic plan to ensure smooth events and broad popular participation from various official, civil, and youth events.
In terms of protecting forest wealth, Al-Mady stressed the need to raise the readiness of emergency teams, civil defense cadres, and the Agriculture Directorate to confront the dangers of summer fires, directing the implementation of immediate field preventive measures that include clearing roadsides of dry weeds and opening insulating fire lines in rugged forest areas.
He called for launching intensive awareness campaigns in which youth and civil society organizations participate to enhance the culture of safe dealing with forests and the necessity of immediately reporting any fire, stressing at the same time the necessity of including areas affiliated with the Jordan Valley Authority within the prevention and follow-up plan to ensure comprehensive coverage of all green patches in the governorate.
He appreciated the sincere efforts made by the security services and the municipal and executive councils in the fields of work, stressing that participatory and institutional spirit are the basic foundation for serving the citizen, preserving national gains, and protecting the environmental capabilities in Tafila Governorate.
