Venezuela added another gold medal this Sunday at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, after taekwondo player Yohandri Granado won first place in the -63 kilogram category.
The Venezuelan fighter obtained the gold medal after beating the Mexican David Millán with a score of 2-1. In an extremely close fight, Granado’s technical precision and agility made the difference on the mat in the final round.
At the end of the match, the athlete dedicated his victory to the Venezuelans affected by the recent earthquakes that hit the national territory.
“This medal means everything to me. There are no words for this great triumph. This is for you. We are going to rise and we are going to be reborn“said the Central American champion in statements offered to the media.
The closing of the day was led by Juan Grimaldo in the -54 kilogram category of taekwondo.
The Venezuelan fighter displayed an impeccable and highly technically effective fight to defeat Diego Reyes, representative of Guatemala, with a solid score of 2-0, ensuring a new bronze medal for the country.
Earlier, Venezuela added its first gold medal during the day after judoka Anriquelis Barrios won first place in the -63 kilogram division.
The athlete demonstrated impeccable technique by winning via Ippon against Prisca Awiti, representative of Mexico and Olympic medalist, in a close fight that sealed his consecration in the regional competition.
At the end of the fight, the Venezuelan expressed her immense happiness for defeating a high-caliber rival and also dedicated the important victory to the citizens affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.
