Decision to impose a penalty of suspension of practicing the medical profession for a period of six years in two doctors issued on 22 June 2026 by the Disciplinary Council of Doctors of Cyprus.
In today’s announcement, the PIS states that the doctors Alevtina Kuzitseva Markou and Viktoria Kuzitseva Christodoulou were found guilty of demonstrating behavior incompatible with the medical profession.
According to the Disciplinary Council, when submitting applications to the Medical Council of Cyprus for the recognition of a specialty title in General Medicine, the two doctors presented that they had completed continuous and uninterrupted four-year postgraduate training at the Gomel State Medical University of Belarus, while they knew that this information did not correspond to reality.
Based on the specific statements, as stated in the decision, they secured recognition of specialty which they would not have received if they had correctly stated the facts.
The Disciplinary Council emphasized that this is a particularly serious disciplinary offense, which affects the core of trust in the process of recognition of medical specialties and its prestige medical profession, noting that the behavior of the two doctors does not constitute a simple procedural error, but a conscious inaccurate presentation of material facts.
Despite the mitigating factors taken into account, including a clean criminal and disciplinary record, as well as their personal and family circumstances, the Council considered that the gravity of the case did not allow for a lighter sentence, it said.
The suspension of medical practice is valid from June 22, 2026 to June 22, 2032, a period during which the two doctors are not entitled to practice the profession.
