PARAMARIBO — Thinking he could outsmart the police by removing license plates, 29-year-old suspect GW was still arrested. He was stopped by the police from the Latour station on Monday, April 6, 2026, during inspection work in the area of the Oemarweg.
The man was riding a moped without a front and rear license plate and was also not wearing a crash helmet. During the inspection, the police pointed out these traffic violations and asked him about the license plates and associated documents. The suspect then took out a license plate with registration number from under the saddle of the moped. However, he was unable to produce documents from the carriage.
The suspect was taken to the police station for further processing. Verification via the Command Center could not determine whether the registration number shown belonged to the moped. It turned out that the vehicle was registered in the name of another person.
The conflicting statements of the suspect led the police to suspect that the moped may have been stolen. The carriage was seized in the interest of the investigation and GW was placed in custody pending the investigation.
