Ecuadorian researchers record 63 species of amphibians and reptiles in Guayaquil, including some not observed for decades and even more than a century, according to the National Institute of Biodiversity (Inabio).
The National Institute of Biodiversity (Inabio) reports that researchers from Ecuadorian universities document 19 species of amphibians and 44 species of reptiles in remnants of tropical dry forest, protected areas and urban parks in Guayaquil, a finding that shows the presence of wildlife despite urban expansion.
According to the study, developed over 17 years, the researchers confirm rarely recorded species such as Caecilia tenuissimaobserved again after almost five decades, and Drymobius rhombiferwhose presence in Guayaquil remains uncertain for more than a century, in addition to the rediscovery of Atractus microrhynchus.
