I am responding to an open letter circulating that was brought to my attention, one which raises serious, deeply troubling allegations of harassment involving a young child. Any suggestion that a child may have been subjected to harm, distress, or inappropriate conduct is something that we must all take seriously as a society. These are matters not for silence or dismissal or delay.
They go to the very heart of who we are as people and how we protect the most vulnerable among us. And I speak today not just as minister, but as a father, a son, and someone who understands that when a child hurts, an entire family carries the pain. There is nothing heavier than the suffering of a child.
And when that pain goes unresolved, when questions linger, when justice feels distant, it leaves scars that are deep, that are lasting, and often quite silent. To the parents and the family of that child or any child going through this type of hurt or suffering, I want you to know that you are not alone. Your pain is seen and your child matters.
But let me also be very clear. Those who harm children, those who exploit, intimidate, or prey on innocent children must understand this. There is no place for you to hide in our society.
We will not excuse it and we will not protect it. As a country, we must stand firm in rejecting and exposing any form of abuse against our children. In moments like this, we must move beyond just talk and ensure that support reaches those who need it most.
