President Karol Nawrocki has introduced a new custom – every Saturday at exactly noon, the Polish flag flying over the Presidential Palace is replaced. Those that have previously crowned the seat of the head of state will be ceremonially handed over in the Palace courtyard on May 2 at 12:00. We know where they will go.
The ceremonial change of the Polish flag takes place every Saturday. This is a new tradition in force since the beginning of 2026 and introduced by President Karol Nawrocki. Just before noon, the white-and-red colors are taken down from the mast of the Presidential Palace and replaced with new ones.
“The new custom is intended to emphasize and appreciate the value of national symbols. The removed flags will be donated to local communities, schools in all sixteen voivodeships, and uniformed services,” reads the website of the Chancellery of the President of Poland.
The entire ceremony is conducted with military protocol.

The first 16 flags will be handed over to uniformed schools.
The official handover will take place on May 2, on Flag Day, at 12:00 p.m., during a ceremony of general nominations – announced on platform X by the head of the President’s office, Paweł Szefernaker.
