Ever since Rousseau, there has been a myth about a man who is good by nature, but society and circumstances (in)turn him evil. So, when a terrible massacre happens, we have armies of psychologists, sociologists and psychiatrists who start dissecting the monster with an epilogue: he had a difficult childhood, suffered from psychosis, depression, poverty forced him to deviate, so he started drinking… In the end, you come to the conclusion that the monster has no responsibility for his actions because he is a victim of psychosocial determinism.
Psychiatry, medicine and all other sciences are necessary, as long as they do not cross the line where they actually deprive the actor of evil of responsibility; due to PTSD, psychosis, neurosis, family and social (dis)opportunities, or any other psychopathology… Take it easy, people, there is evil, there are people who have been harmed…
