Police arrested six people and seized three firearms, ammunition, cannabis and contraband during State of Emergency operations carried out across several police divisions yesterday.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, officers conducted coordinated exercises in the Northern, Northern North, North Central and North Eastern Divisions on Thursday.
In one operation, Task Force officers of the Northern North Division carried out an exercise between 5.30 pm and 9 pm in the Tunapuna area. Officers searched the home of a male suspect, where they found 11 fully grown cannabis trees, 1.256 kilogrammes of cannabis and four pieces of camouflage clothing.
Police arrested the suspect in connection with the finds.
Acting on intelligence, the officers later searched a bushy area in Maloney, where they found a pistol fitted with a magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition.
Superintendent Mc Kenzie and Assistant Superintendent Balewa coordinated the exercise.
In a separate operation, Task Force officers of the North Central Division, assisted by personnel of the Criminal Investigations Department Operations Unit, St Joseph CID, Tunapuna CID, Arouca CID, Guard and Emergency Branch and the Canine Unit, conducted an exercise between 6 pm and 11 pm.
During that exercise, officers arrested four suspects.
Police arrested an El Dorado man after allegedly finding him with a Beretta pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition. Officers also arrested a Macoya man for possession of cannabis, a Trincity man in connection with reports of malicious damage and threats to kill, and a Tunapuna man in relation to house breaking and larceny offences.
Senior Superintendent Gift, Superintendent Jaikaran and Assistant Superintendent Pierre spearheaded the exercise.
In another operation in the North Central Division, officers searched a warehouse at Garden Village, Arouca, where they found quantities of illegal cigarettes and alcohol.
Police arrested a 60-year-old Arouca man in connection with the seizure.
Meanwhile, Task Force officers in the North Eastern Division conducted an exercise in Morvant between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm. During a search of an abandoned wooden structure, officers found an AR-15 rifle fitted with a magazine containing 29 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
W/Senior Superintendent (Ag.) Guy-Alleyne, Superintendent Birch and Assistant Superintendent (Ag.) Callender led the exercise, which included officers from the Canine Branch.
Police said investigations into all of the matters are continuing.
