Those quick on the draw got the desired result as the initial Ireland priority sales window for next year’s Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, Co Limerick, sold out in less than an hour when the online portal went live on Friday morning but with disappointed applicants able to get a second bite when the global tickets sales window opens on June 3rd.
More than 150,000 residents on the island of Ireland had registered for the early access sale for the centenary Ryder Cup at Adare Manor on September 13th-19th 2027, and the available tickets – an undisclosed number, but with organisers anticipating at least a third of all ticket sales for the 250,000 attendance through the week of the tournament will be to Irish golf fans – went in jig-time. At its peak, the online queue reached approximately 75,000.
Richard Atkinson, the European Tour Group’s Chief Ryder Cup Officer, described as “unprecedented” the level of sales interest for the match, where general admission tickets – costing €499, almost twice as much as the cost for Rome 2023 but less than the €638 ($750) pricing for the match in Bethpage, New York, last year – will be the most expensive ever for a Ryder Cup in Europe.
Tickets for the island of Ireland only window covered the three practice days, where prices ranged from €89 to €179, and also for the three tournament days while a number of weekly tickets were also available. All of the available tickets sold out in under an hour.
“We know that Irish golf fans are among the most enthusiastic in the world and this is yet another reminder of that,” said Atkinson, with the reminder that those wishing to have a second bid in the worldwide ballot must preregister – on www.rydercup.com – for that June 3rd sale which, again, is expected to be a quick sellout.
It has emerged that Jim Furyk is likely to fill the role of USA captain for the match, where Luke Donald will be seeking to lead Europe to a third straight win following on from his successful captaincies in Rome 2023 and Bethpage 2025.
Tiger Woods was initially lined up to assume the USA captaincy before withdrawing his name last month.
Furyk was Ryder Cup captain in Paris and vice-captain to Keegan Bradley at Bethpage, while also successfully captaining the Americans to victory in the Presidents Cup over the International team in Canada in 2024, and has emerged as the likely choice of the PGA of America, although yet to be officially confirmed.
