Rotary District Games continue to shape youth development

The Ro­tary Club of Port-of-Spain of­fi­cial­ly launched the 34th an­nu­al Dis­trict Games for Pri­ma­ry Schools on Tues­day, reaf­firm­ing its com­mit­ment to youth de­vel­op­ment through sport.

The me­dia launch and lun­cheon, held at Good­will In­dus­tries, brought to­geth­er key stake­hold­ers, spon­sors and sport­ing bod­ies to in­tro­duce the up­com­ing games to the na­tion­al com­mu­ni­ty.

Spon­sors sup­port­ing this year’s event in­clude Sign­wave Ltd, Blue Wa­ters Prod­ucts Ltd, Nestlé Trinidad and To­ba­go Ltd, Carib Brew­ery Ltd, ANSA McAL Ltd and Na­tion­al Pe­tro­le­um Mar­ket­ing Com­pa­ny Ltd.

Al­so present were rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the Na­tion­al As­so­ci­a­tion of Ath­let­ics Ad­min­is­tra­tions of Trinidad and To­ba­go (NAAA), the Trinidad and To­ba­go Olympic Com­mit­tee, and School Su­per­vi­sor II for Port-of-Spain and En­vi­rons, Carl Thomas.

Over the years, the Dis­trict Games have evolved in­to more than just a sport­ing com­pe­ti­tion. The pro­gramme serves as a crit­i­cal plat­form for in­still­ing dis­ci­pline, team­work, and healthy lifestyles in young ath­letes, help­ing to shape their per­son­al­i­ties both on and off the field.

Chair­man of the Ro­tary Games and im­me­di­ate past pres­i­dent, An­tho­ny An­drews, un­der­scored the im­por­tance of the ini­tia­tive, not­ing its last­ing im­pact on par­tic­i­pants be­yond their school years.

“Ro­tary Games in it­self brings a base form for dis­ci­pline, and on this dis­ci­pline, af­ter the games, if they want to get in­to what­ev­er pro­fes­sion, we have seen where that dis­ci­pline through sports al­lows them to be suc­cess­ful in their pro­fes­sion­al fields,” An­drews said.

The 34th edi­tion of the Dis­trict Games is set to be­gin on April 21, bring­ing to­geth­er young ath­letes from across the cap­i­tal and its en­vi­rons for an­oth­er show­case of tal­ent and de­vel­op­ment.

The Ro­tary Dis­trict Games con­tin­ue to stand as one of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s key youth de­vel­op­ment pro­grammes, us­ing sport as a foun­da­tion to build con­fi­dence, nur­ture tal­ent and pre­pare the next gen­er­a­tion for suc­cess in all as­pects of life.
