The highest June temperature ever has been recorded in Antarctica. As the National Weather Service of Argentina announced on Thursday, a temperature of 15.4 degrees Celsius was measured at the Esperanza Base research station on June 6th. The thermometer in Antarctica has never climbed this high before. According to the information, the average June temperature at Esperanza Station is actually minus 6.2 degrees.
According to the information, unusually high temperatures have also been measured at other research stations since the beginning of the month. The previous June record value for Antarctica dates back to 1998. At that time, 13.3 degrees were measured.
Given the comparatively high temperatures for this time of year, the ice in Antarctica is currently melting faster than usual, according to experts. (APA/AFP)
