The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the start of implementing a special and comprehensive tender to maintain asphalt mixtures and implement traffic safety works, in addition to establishing protections for water facilities and rainwater drainage on several main and vital roads within the South Region.
The estimated cost of the project, according to the Ministry’s statement today, Thursday, is 4 million dinars, with an expected implementation period of up to 300 days, while the work plan depends on several main axes for which the Ministry has set specific timetables. Work will begin on the ground first on the desert road within the Qatraneh area, with a length of about 3 kilometers in the most affected locations, starting next Saturday morning, with the subsequent stages including the Qatraneh and Karak roads, specifically from the area opposite the Hussein bin Abdullah II Industrial City towards the Zahoum area, and the The Karak Jordan Valley in the Al-Kharza area.
The Ministry added that the works also include completing the construction of the Katharba Al-Aghwar Road, 4 kilometers long, and the Al-Jafr Al-Azraq Road, known as Al-Badia Road, in addition to the Royal Quay Road, the Civil Defense Bridge in Ma’an, the maintenance of the first, second and third parallel bridges, and Wadi Ahimer within the Aqaba Governorate, and the construction of a box ferry in the Al-Sammar region.
The plan includes a wide package of engineering and field works that will be implemented in accordance with the highest international standards in this field, and includes scraping damaged road surfaces, treating ground subsidence, re-laying new asphalt layers, in addition to cutting, backfilling and brushing works for specific areas, and implementing ground painting works and traffic safety elements along the project roads.
To ensure the continuity of traffic movement and reduce congestion, the Ministry, in cooperation and joint coordination with the Central Traffic Department and the External Patrol Department, adopted a flexible work mechanism that ensures traffic flows smoothly and without any delay throughout the work period.
