The Attorney General’s Office reported that it has achieved 143 arrests, 126 provisional detentions and 12 convictions related to the massive escape of prisoners that occurred in the La Joyita Penitentiary Center.
According to the entity, these results are part of the investigations carried out after the escape of inmates recorded at the prison, which left three inmates dead and six injured. In addition to three injured National Police officers.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, prosecutors have participated to date in 26 guarantee control hearings, managing to bring 126 people linked to the events before judges.
In addition, 12 convictions have been handed down through sentencing agreements for the crime of evasion. The sentences were distributed as follows:
Three sentences of 36 months in prison.
Seven sentences of 42 months in prison.
A sentence of 44 months in prison.
A sentence of 47 months in prison.
The Attorney General’s Office specified that these sanctions will be added to the effective sentences that those sentenced must serve for the crimes that originally motivated their deprivation of liberty.
The institution also highlighted that the hearings related to this case will continue next Monday, as part of the judicial actions to determine responsibilities and prosecute those involved.
