THE PRISON POPULATION in St.Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), has recorded a steady decline into 2026, dropping to levels not seen in almost four years, and returning institutional numbers to the baseline lows of 2022.
Superintendent of Prisons Dwayne Bailey, shared the July 2026 Prison statistics during the closing ceremony of the High Court Criminal Assizes on Monday, July 27.
The official prison status report prepared for High Court Judge Justice Rickie Burnett, details that the current inmate population consists of 383 men and seven women.
This current figure represents a long-term drop from the 486 inmates housed at the state’s facilities in 2020, highlighting a sustained six-year trajectory toward reduced incarceration numbers.
