Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit recently met with the executive of the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD) to discuss issues affecting persons with disabilities and explore ways to strengthen inclusion across the country.
In a statement shared on social media, the Prime Minister said the meeting focused on practical measures to ensure that the voices of persons with disabilities are better represented in national decision-making and that policies address their needs more effectively.
According to the statement, one proposal being considered is the creation of a dedicated government department or unit that would advocate for the rights and interests of persons with disabilities while coordinating policies and programmes designed to support them.
Skerrit said his administration remains committed to working closely with the DAPD to advance meaningful reforms and foster a more inclusive society where every Dominican has the opportunity to participate fully and equally.
