Fourth seed Antoine Lil Man Daniel produced a dominant performance to advance to the round of 16 of the Barbados Road Tennis Open at Checker Hall, St Lucy, on Sunday.
Daniel was ruthless in the opening game against Lloyd Burke, building an unassailable 18-6 lead with some breathtaking shots before comfortably taking the game 21-10.
Burke came out fighting in the second, with the score tied at 2-2, 5-5, 6-6 and 7-7 before Daniel moved ahead 8-7.
Daniel then opened a five-point advantage at 13-8 and never surrendered the lead, taking the game 21-15 to complete the straight-sets victory.
Tenth seed Adrian Scott also advanced to the round of 16, but had to battle from behind against Ahijah Blunt.
Blunt edged a thrilling opening game 23-21 before Scott dug deep to level the contest with a 21-16 victory in the second.
The deciding game was tied several times, including at 7-7, 8-8, 9-9 and 12-12, before Scott moved ahead 13-12 and never relinquished the lead, winning 21-13.
In other results, Mosai Williams advanced to the round of 16 for the second time in the BRTO after outclassing Christopher Renee 21-8, 21-6.
Dwayne Hope also prevailed in a three-game battle with Jayden Mayers. Hope won the opening game 22-20 before Mayers responded 21-12 to force a decider.
Hope held his nerve to take the third 21-18 and secure a 22-20, 12-21, 21-18 victory.
In women’s action, Sharon Small defeated Camille Ashby in straight sets 21-18, 21-9 to advance to the round of 16.
Samantha Rogers won by default against Cherene Ward, while Margo Lorde also advanced by default against Krystal Harewood.
