Fico himself denied his participation in the parade. He said that he only plans to lay flowers at the monument to the Unknown Soldier.
“I will put flowers on the grave of an unknown soldier of the Red Army to thank Slovak women and men for the liberation, and I have a short meeting planned with President Putin. That’s all. I’m not going to any military parade,” the head of the Slovak government said.
He also defended his earlier decision to go to Russia condemned in the European Commission.
“I will not allow myself to be driven into such a situation that I would have any remorse,” Fizo said.
The other day it became known that the Czech Republic issued permission to fly plane of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during his trip to Moscow until May 9.
Before that, the Baltic states refused to let a Slovak government plane through their airspace. A similar situation arose last year – then, due to a flight ban, a flight from Fico went to Moscow via Hungary, Romania, the Black Sea, Georgia and Russia itself.
That year, Robert Fico and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić became the only guests of Putin from Europe at the level of leaders states at the celebrations in Moscow on May 9.
