TEHRAN. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard rejected this Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked by the United States and warned military ships not to approach the area, after US President Donald Trump stated that his country will close the passage and remove the mines placed by the Islamic Republic.
“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announces that, contrary to false claims by some enemy officials, the Strait of Hormuz is under intelligent control and management, open to the safe passage of civil and subject to specific regulations“said said elite military body in a statement collected by the Tasnim agency.
Furthermore, he warned that “any military vessel that, under any pretext or justification, attempts to approach the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire and will be the subject of a forceful response.”
The Iranian warning comes after the US president stated this Sunday that will block the Strait of Hormuz and that it will remove the mines placed by Iran in the area. Trump said that his country’s Navy “will block each and every ship” who try to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz by paying tolls to Iran.
Traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which the 20% of the world’s oilwas restricted by Iran since the start of the war with Israel and the US, on February 28, and was one of the points of disagreement in the negotiations that Tehran and Washington held yesterday in Pakistan.
