Begin negotiations on a preferential trade agreement

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, delivered a speech, after supervising, with his Turkish counterpart, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, today, Thursday, May 7, in Ankara, the signing ceremony of agreements and memorandums of understanding covering various areas of cooperation between the two countries.
President Tebboune began his speech by thanking his Turkish counterpart for the “special care” he and his accompanying delegation received, which “is only befitting true brothers.”
President Tebboune stated that he reviewed with his Turkish counterpart “important milestones” related to the reality of relations between Algeria and Turkey, “which are relations of historical depth and based on a common cultural heritage.”
To point out that these relations are witnessing “an increasing dynamism that calls us to be satisfied and to appreciate the steps we have taken to reach this level in a short time, no more than five years, which we seek through this visit to strengthen by diversifying economic cooperation and expanding areas of partnership for the renewable energy, agriculture, industry, and mining sectors,” in addition to “supporting bilateral cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian fields and valuing our common historical and civilizational heritage.”
President Tebboune expressed his satisfaction “with the results of these rich and fruitful talks, which culminated in the signing of an important number of agreements.”
In his speech, President Tebboune also praised “the reactivation of the Businessmen Forum and its pivotal role in trade exchange and investment movement between economic operators in the two countries.”
He also appreciated the start of negotiations on the preferential trade agreement, noting that it was agreed in this regard “on a specific list of goods that would contribute to raising the volume of trade exchanges and investments to the limits of ten billion dollars, as we have decided in 2021.”
