Hollywood star Richard Gere has US President Donald Trump referred to as “crazy”. “We are living in the darkest moment I have ever experienced on this planet,” said the 76-year-old at an awards ceremony in Oslo on Tuesday. “On day one, this guy dismantled almost everything that was good about the US government and the US people,” Gere told hundreds of listeners. Trump’s election was only possible “because we fell asleep. We didn’t care.”
Referring to a recent visit to the Dachau concentration camp memorial, Gere called for vigilance: “We have to recognize the signs, this dictatorship of monsters, how quickly it is emerging. We have to be vigilant.”
The actor, who became world-famous with his roles in “Pretty Woman” and “American Gigolo,” made the comments at the Vaclav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent. During the Oslo Freedom Forum, Gere announced the awards for imprisoned Chinese artist Gao Zhen and Myanmar dissident Sai. (APA)
