In his strongest call yet on the conflict in the Middle East, Pope Leo
“Enough of the idolatry of oneself and money! Enough of the display of strength! Enough of war! True strength is manifested in the service of life,” implored the Supreme Pontiff in a speech delivered during a peace vigil in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Likewise, he harshly criticized the “delusions of omnipotence that become increasingly unpredictable and aggressive around us.” He also maintained that the Catholic Church will always advance its call for peace, “even when rejecting the logic of war can lead to incomprehension and contempt.”
Leo XIV also criticized the misuse of religion to justify violence and condemned the quest for power linked to it.
Addressing world leaders, he told them that they should sit at the table of dialogue and mediation and not one where “rearmament is planned and lethal actions are decided.” (DPA/AP)
