Three days have passed since a devastating pair of earthquakes struck Venezuela’s northern coast on Wednesday, leaving scores of people dead and widespread destruction in its wake. Rescuers race against a dwindling clock to find survivors trapped under the rubble.
The second quake, at magnitude 7.5, was Venezuela’s most powerful in more than a century.
Some displaced residents have nowhere to go after their homes were flattened in the port city of La Guaira, the capital Caracas and surrounding areas. International aid groups have begun delivering critical supplies to the country.
The disaster comes at a dire time for Venezuela, which was already deep in a political and financial crisis.
