In the glorious weather in Ilulissat, citizens and tourists gathered this morning in front of the municipality’s building. Speeches were given, choirs sang and, at the end, breakfast was served outdoors.
On National Day As tradition has it, there was a gathering of people, both citizens and tourists, in front of Avannaata Kommunia’s administration building in Ilulissat.
To begin the gathering, one of Ilulissat’s citizens, Pele Dorph, raised the flag.
Choir in Ilulissat, Ilulissani Erinarsoqatigiit, sang two songs as the flag was raised. “Nunarput Utoqqarsuanngoravit” and “Nuna Asiilasooq”.
The mayor of Avannaata Kommunia, Lars Erik Gabrielsen (S), gave a speech to those present after the choir. His message included, among other things, the importance of unity and education.
– Unfortunately, we are experiencing polarization and division in both settlements and cities. Conflicts often arise in one place and can develop over a long period of time. Some disagreements have even spanned several generations, the mayor said in part of the speech.
Some of the associations in Ilulissat were also present. They held the “Erfalasorput” as prescribed by tradition.
The chairman of Kalaallit Nunaanni Aalisartut Piniartullu Kattuffiat, KNAPK, Pele Blytmann, who comes from Ilulissat, also attended Ilulissat.
After speeches and choral singing, breakfast was served to those present.
During the morning, a speech was also given from the youth club. The speech was about the young people and their activities. Here, Aviaaja Olsen Kristoffersen spoke on behalf of her peers.
