Opposition Leader and Salisbury MP Jesma Paul-Victor called on the government to modernize and expand the Salisbury Health Centre, stating that residents deserve access to a facility capable of meeting modern healthcare needs.
She made the appeal while addressing constituency matters during her response to the 2026/2027 National Budget this week.
She praised the doctors, nurses, community health aides and other workers at the existing facility, but said the building itself has not kept pace with modern standards.
Paul-Victor proposed a modern, accessible and climate-resilient facility offering a wider range of primary healthcare services.
According to the opposition leader, the centre should function as a community wellness facility focused on prevention, early diagnosis, health education and chronic disease management.
Paul-Victor also proposed “improved consultation and examination rooms, maternal and child health services, pharmaceutical storage and accessible features for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.”
She wants confidential counselling and community mental health services incorporated into the facility.
“With diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and obesity placing pressure on families and the health system,” Paul-Victor also called for expanded screening, nutritional counselling and wellness programmes.
She noted that the upgraded facility should have “backup power, water storage, emergency communications and adequate medical supplies to remain operational following natural disasters.”
