From doctor to doctor and each with a different diagnosis, Joe found one who could give him an accurate medical diagnosis. After performing a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and other studies, they revealed that his heart barely pumps 20% of the blood it should normally pump, in addition to the fact that his left ventricle is damaged and the heart wall is injured due to the enlargement of the organ.
Because of this, López faces consecutive cardiac arrestsso given the risk of sudden death, the doctor recommended the urgent implantation of a cardiac defibrillator, a device that will emit electric shocks to restore it.
“I’ve had a lot of cardiac arrests. I recently had one that lasted about 10 seconds and that worried me a lot,” Joe said.
However, the cost of the procedure including the device amounts to RD$1.9 milliona figure that exceeds their economic possibilities. Of this amount López It has 900 thousand pesos, of these 300 thousand from government aid.
Joe has put his car up for grabs to try to raise the missing money, however, this process has been late.
“Waiting for the tickets to be sold I’m going to die.”expressed López.
Every month Joe spends 13 thousand pesos on medications to control his condition. In addition, his wife had to leave her job because she began to have health complications, so the entire household expenses correspond to her.
Married for 23 years, he lives with his wife and her three daughters, whom he considers a fundamental part of his life. Although this condition limits Joe from performing physical conditions due to the risk of suffering cardiac arrest that ends his life, he continues to strive to support his family.
Because of this, Joe asks for help from anyone who can make a contribution to his condition and thus be able to perform the medical procedure he requires to stabilize his heart.
