The European Union (EU) Council announced that temporary restrictions have been imposed on visa applications for Somali citizens. The reason for the decision was given that the Somali administration did not show sufficient cooperation in the readmission of its citizens who were irregularly present in EU countries.
In the statement made by the Council, it was stated that the decision was taken in line with the evaluation of the European Commission, and it was stated that Somalia did not make the expected progress in the readmission processes.
MULTIPLE ENTRY VISAS ARE STOPPED
Under the new regulation, EU member states will no longer be able to issue multiple entry visas to Somali citizens. In addition, exemptions from some document and evidence requirements for visa applications from Somalia will be removed.
In addition, the visa fee exemption for diplomatic and service passport holders will also end.
WAITING TIME TRIPLES
With the decision, the processing times for visa applications of Somali citizens were also extended. The evaluation period for applications that were previously concluded within 15 calendar days has been increased to 45 days.
The EU Council announced that the measures taken were temporary, but there was no specific date when the implementation would end.
