Passage of exam Bill will make system more robust: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the passage of the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill, 2026, through both Houses of Parliament, would make the examination system more robust. He posted the message on Instagram, a platform he has increasingly adopted to reach out to young students who had protested in Delhi over the issue.

Addressing young students as “sathiyon” (compatriots), Mr. Modi said the passage of the Bill was part of many steps taken by his government to address the issue of leakage of examination papers, something, he said “has become imperative”.

“From the setting up of a task force to develop a fool-proof system to conduct examinations, to fast-track courts, to consulting with States, and the passage of the Bill in both Houses of Parliament, with many MPs weighing in on the Bill, we will tackle the issue,” he said. Mr. Modi warned that the “paper leak mafia” would not be spared and would be prosecuted with the full force of law, and that he would continue to speak to students often while he tackled the issue.

The Prime Minister has been taking to Instagram to reach out to students on a platform that is used by them to calm the waters after protests broke out in New Delhi and across the country after the NEET exam question paper got leaked this year. Former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to quit his position following the protests to get the protesters call off their stir.

Mr. Modi had first made the outreach on Instagram in the midst of the protest and has returned to the platform for posting messages two more times.
